At the age of 13 is too old to go through a treatment is expensive and not only offers a 50:50-chance of survival.
As far as I know, I've never had to do, is no walk in the park or the dog!

At the time, during the dark years of the prevention of heartworm disease is the common belief that drugs should not be among the first frost and spring. And yes, my dog has a parasite taken under contract. I was devastated, to say the least.

The treatment time was something like arsenic. In other words, the dying dog in order to kill the worms. Not a pleasant thought!

I'm not going to an older dog (the twilight of his life) by this method. No way. As it is sad that in my heart that can lead to certain death for my friend. I like what time we have left.

Ask your veterinarian about other ways of acting. If I can remember it heartworm prevention, an animal that has heartworm are given. Ask questions you know to be a progression of the infection, TimeWise, symptoms, etc. For what you expect, what time can certainly help.

We must all die of something. You can not harbor resentment for what happened. What is. It treasures the time that you have. They have given valuable time. His friend was taken over by a car accident have no time whatsoever.

I am for what they view sorry. Many blessings my friend.

Although the heart worms can be fatal and treatment of the disease carries a risk, the condition is usually curable. The treatment requires careful medical care and bed rest at home afterwards.

The first thing that we value the health of your dog, a physical examination, laboratory tests and chest X-rays to determine the condition of the heart and lungs. We may use other issues to require attention first, or if the worm is heart will find very hard to adjust our treatment plan.

Adult worms are about six inches long and live mostly in the heart. Baby parasites are microscopic and live in the blood vessels in the body. Each step must be treated separately. First, eliminate the adult worms by a series of injections will be spread over two days.

If you have the treatment of heartworm disease, completed in your dog is dead or dying. That's good, but my heart is still full of worms. The worms gradually eliminate pieces of small fragments that are small enough that the body of Eliminati them. The critical period is when worm fragments are small enough to distribute in the body, but still big enough to fill the small arteries of the lungs. Vigorous activity makes the heart pump faster, pushing bits of dead heart of the small blood vessels, where they can cause problems, so vigorous activity must be avoided.

Although other drugs have been in the past, almost all veterinarians use an arsenic-containing drug Immiticide - Of course we use in the past, but also more expensive. Is given as an injection deep into the muscles in your lower back. Unfortunately Immiticide is extremely irritating. Painful, even when injected properly, the smallest Immiticide injected in the wrong place and cause great pain, sometimes for days. To avoid this, we need to xylazine administration by a strong painkiller and sedative before Immiticide. This pain is void after the injection, and because our patients are comfortable to sleep, no struggle, and almost no chance of accidentally one of the medicines that can cause problems later.

Talk to your veterinarian. Maybe they can give the dog heartworm "preventative" .. treatment. It takes a lot longer. If the dog is not very active ... the best to try "unconventional" treatment. The standard treatment of heartworm is very, very hard for a young and healthy dogs and dangerous for an old dog.
He is a better way "if" the veterinarian.
